Introduction

“Ye Enat” bedeutet auf Amharisch “das der Mutter”. Und genau so können Sie das äthiopische Essen und unseren traditionellen Kaffee erleben: Wie von Mutters Hand gemacht. Und jeder weiß, dass es bei der Mutter zuhause am besten schmeckt!

Äthiopien liegt am Horn von Afrika und beheimatet über 110 Mio. Menschen. Dort entstammte nicht nur die Menschheit, sondern auch unser Kaffee. Denn die magische Kirsche hat ihre Heimat in der Region Kaffa- im Südwesten Äthiopiens.

Über 80 verschiedene Sprachen werden in Äthiopien gesprochen. Die beiden großen Glaubensgemeinschaften bilden äthiopisch-orthodoxe Christen und sunnitische Muslime. Äthiopien zählt außerdem zu einem der ältesten christlich geprägten Staaten der Erde. Der Islam hat dort ebenfalls eine mehr als tausend Jahre alte Geschichte.

Da das Fasten sowohl im Islam als auch im Christentum einen festen Bestandteil der religiösen Praxis ausmacht, ernähren sich die meisten Äthiopier fast die Hälfte der Tage im Jahr rein vegan. Aus diesem Grund ist gerade die vegane Küche in unserer Heimat sehr vielseitig und ausgeprägt.

Injera, das traditionelle äthiopische Gericht, ist ein sehr dünnes, weiches Fladenbrot aus Sauerteig. Es stellt die gesunde Grundlage für jedes Gericht dar und ersetzt dabei auch noch die Teller.

In Amharic "Ye Enat" means "that of the mother". And this is exactly the way you can experience the Ethiopian food and our traditional coffee: as if made by mother's hand. And everyone knows that mother’s food tastes the best!

Ethiopians are a colorful, multi-ethnic people from the Horn of Africa.This region is origin of not only mankind, but of our coffee as well. Because the magic cherry has its home in the region of Kaffa- in the southwest of Ethiopia.

Over 80 different languages are spoken in Ethiopia. The two major denominations are Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and Sunni Muslims. Ethiopia is one of the oldest Christian states in the world. Islam also has a history of more than a thousand years in Ethiopia. Is that not fascinating?

Since fasting is an integral part of religious practice in both Islam and Christianity, most Ethiopians adopt a vegan diet for almost half the year. For this reason, the vegan kitchen in our home is very versatile and pronounced.

Injera, the traditional Ethiopian dish, is a very thin, soft flatbread made from millet, flour, yeast and water. It is the healthy basis for every dish and amusingly replaces all the plates.
